How EDHTuner works

Three stages, all in your browser. Free, and no account. The whole analysis runs on your own machine. Your decklist never has to leave it to get a result.

1. It reads your deck

EDHTuner loads the rules text of every legal Commander card, about 34,000 of them from Scryfall's card data. Then it reads yours: what your commander does, which themes your 99 actually supports, and where you stand on ramp, card draw, targeted disruption, mass disruption, and protection. It also works out how your deck wins and names the finishers, so you can check the claim against your own cards.

The theme read is text-based, so it works for any deck, including commanders too obscure for popularity data. A deck of 29 Spiders is a Spider deck even if nobody else has built it.

2. It suggests adds and cuts, ranked by fit

Candidates come from reading card texts against your plan first, and popularity data second. Every suggestion is legal in your colors, your bracket, and your Game Changer cap. Cuts lean on EDHREC's per-commander numbers as evidence, and every cut names its reason, so you can disagree on the merits. Whatever your deck is short on goes first. If you're at 6 card draw where most decks run 12, draw gets the first suggestions.

3. It playtests every suggested swap

We then play each suggested swap out in thousands of paired solo games: the same shuffles with and without it, so the only difference between the two runs is the card itself. We drop any swap that makes your deck meaningfully slower. Your land count gets the same treatment, tested at several counts on identical shuffles.

These are goldfish games: your deck plays against nobody. That measures speed and consistency honestly, and it can't measure interaction, politics, or your table. The methodology page spells out exactly what the playtests can and can't see.
